Tonight is Walpurgis Night. I’d light a bonfire, but someone would probably call the fire department on me.

Week one of my new job is over. Whew. Quite the rollercoaster. I go from being really pumped, to thinking I’m about to be fired… several times per day. I’ve not once wanted to quit though.

I start my new job tomorrow, and being over 60km away, that’s going to mean a lot of commuting. I didn’t want to put all that wear and tear on either of the SVXes, so I decided that I should hang on to my trusty old Stratus for the time being to use as a commuter car.
The problem with that is the tires. I had the snows on there, but they’re noisy on the highway, and wear down quickly if not driven on snow. The summer tires that were on before also have a problem, that being that one of them is destroyed from going flat last fall. That type of tire is discontinued, so I can’t just replace it, and running without a matched set of tires is dangerous and ugly. So, time for new ones, but if I’m going to get rid of the car, I don’t want to spend all this money for nothing.
Two weeks ago, I started thinking…

Tonight we went to see Silent Hill at the movies. Overall, I thought it was pretty good; it stayed fairly faithful to the SH mythology, while revealing some new pieces to the puzzle. Akira Yamaoka still supplied the ambient “music” (read: post-industrial noise), though most of it was merely recycled from the games.
There were some disappointing elements, like with just about anything where the viewer has expectations going in, but the good outweighed the bad. If you’re a fan of the Silent Hill video games, or you just want to see some creepy imagery, then I recommend checking it out.

I don’t know if this is old news or not, but it sure is amusing:

My new job starts on the 24th of April. They asked me to take all my tools with me; I don’t think they have a clue how many tools I actually own. My parents are coming this week, so I’ll enlist the help of my dad and the trusty minivan. Hopefully my new employer won’t mind if I get started moving myself in (sounds a little funny when saying this in the context of a new job, but that’s what I’d call it with mechanics) a little early.
I’ve given my two weeks at the Jiffy Lube, and I’ll be kinda sad to leave; we had a great crew, and some of them will even miss me too, and they were the closest thing I have to friends in this town, but life goes on. I won’t miss my boss one bit though. Or the punishing hours. Or the crappy pay.
I still worry in the back of my mind that somehow, this won’t work out. I keep telling myself that it’s just paranoia talking; my negative side coming out. I have no rational reason to think that I will screw this up. It’s an awfully big step to make, moving to a different town and hopefully buying a house, only to somehow end up unemployed or unhappy. I hope I don’t let myself, or anyone else down this time. It probably won’t sink in that this is reality and it won’t implode on me until after my first couple days on the job. Despite the nagging voice (which is probably just used to things not going right for the past several years), I know this is going to work, and I know that I will be happy with my decisions.

Today I picked up SVX #2 from Stratford Subaru, and while I was there, I followed up on my job lead. They’ve offered me an apprentice mechanic position, which I’d be foolish to turn down. There isn’t really much more to tell, so I’ll just celebrate with some pictures:
