Interview today

I have an interview at Futureshop in about half an hour, so I’d better make this short. I think the job is Lead Technician or something, like the supervisor of the techs, but it could be just a regular techie job, I can’t remember. Anyway, wish me luck!

Oh, and I do apologize about the lack of updates, but besides hunting for work (which I don’t want to talk about, and you probably don’t want to hear about), there just isn’t much going on. Lots of Wolfenstein, and reading. That’s about it.

Telehealth Ontario

Last night I began having some chest pain, which normally wouldn’t concern me at all; just a subluxated rib or something. But last night, I was feeling some strange sensations in my left arm as well, so I called Telehealth Ontario to see if it was worth worrying about. Naturally, they wanted me to go to the emergency ward at the hospital. The triage nurse explained to me that they always do that. Fun.

Then I noticed the sign that said, “Estimated wait time for non-critical cases: 6 hours” with a huge “plus” sign drawn in marker after it. I wish I had a digital camera. Luckily, I guess they consider chest pain serious, so my entire visit only took 6 hours, rather than 6 hours just waiting. I figure I only waited about an hour (during which I subjected myself to an old issue of Sport Compact Car - I can’t describe how much that rag sucks). Seriously, why would anyone wait in emerg for like 6 hours due to a cold?

Weekend

This weekend my parents and my sister and even my grandma came to visit. Despite all the people, things weren’t too cramped here, and nobody got really annoyed and lost their cool, I don’t think, except for perhaps myself. Even then I didn’t yell at anyone, thankfully; I just got kinda grouchy. I digress.

One of our fun-filled activities on Saturday was a nice pleasant walk along the waterfront. Pictures abound. Enjoy.

Spam

Due to the overwhelming volume of spam I’ve been receiving, I’ve decided to disallow html and urls in comments and see if that helps.

Blah

It’s been a few days. Nothing much to say. Parents are coming to visit tonight, so I did lots of housework yesterday. Still looking for work, etc. Lots of crappy stuff to do.

When not doing the crappy stuff, I’ve just been playing video games as usual. Silent Hill 3 (awesome) and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (awesome, but I suck at it).

I think I should rename this blog

… to Spam-Trap, the blog where all you see is comment-spam. In the last 24 hours I have received over 160 individual comments that contained almost exclusively porno links. Some even tried to throw off potential despamming systems by including “normal” websites, such as microsoft, yahoo, BMW, and so on. Most came from different IPs and most occurred within a very short timeframe. Looks to me like a co-ordinated “attack” of sorts from some hacker punk’s armada of commandeered systems. If it keeps up at this rate, I may consider disallowing urls in comments and see if that helps.

P.S.C. stands for…

Piece of Sodding Crap. I hate printers; have I ever mentioned that before?

A word to the wise: don’t bother getting a router with a print server if you plan to use it with a multi-function / PSC type thing. It doesn’t work very well at all. I really wish that sort of thing were mentioned on the website.

dark side of the moon

Well, as of today, I’m back on line; I’ve been without steady internet access for several weeks now, and it feels a lot like what I imagine the Apollo astronauts went through when they were on the dark side of the moon, unable to communicate with the earth, except, a lot less serious. I keep thinking of that quote from Falling Down, where the main character says something similar. Except, you know, a lot less psychotic.

Finally going home

Sounds a bit silly perhaps, but while here, I’ve been feeling more than a little homesick; homesick for Windsor. Yeah, I know I don’t have many of the same creature comforts there yet, such as a fridge full of tasty food like there is here, or a TV with 57 channels of crap like there is at Meghan’s house, but I still miss the place.

That ends today; I’m going home. By this time tonight I should be sprawled on my couch playing video games or something. Really looking forward to it. I’ll miss the constant stream of Star Trek, Monster Garage, and infomercials, but hey, we can’t have it all, right?

We’ll be bringing back some of the things that were missed last time; a third and hopefully final cargo run. There’s a couple boxes of RPG books, a Cuckoo clock, a box of ‘gently used’ lightbulbs (from my grandpa’s house; enough to keep me going for a few years), some clothes, more kitchen stuff, some shelves, and, most important of all, the Loki-cat.

Hopefully though, he won’t barf during the trip like he did yesterday on his way to the vet for his shots. Oh well, at least it inspired me to clean out the car.

Well, before I leave I was going to hit up the Rad Zone for some Iced Earth and possibly more video games, so I’d best be getting ready.
