Wine making time

Wine-making has been somewhat of a family tradition for us, and once again, after a few years hiatus (whilst we consume the fruits of our labour) to make another batch. I’m not talking about the crap you can make at places like U-Brew, and I’m not talking about some cheesy kit. This is honest-to-goodness homemade, from scratch, with fruit harvested by hand. In this case, strawberry-rhubarb. Like the pie. Mmmmm… yummy.

Wel, I have many, many pounds of fruit to prepare (enough for almost 10 gallons), so I’d best get to work.

Beyond the wall of death

Perhaps the very nature of the discovery makes this entry invalid. And then, maybe not.

In the last 30 hours, I have, without consciously searching for it, run into several well-thought-out arguments against the existence of any sort of afterlife, and completely debunking psychic theory. I’m not exactly a believer per se, but I hadn’t gone full-blown Atheist either. Perhaps that is about to change?

Back for a visit

It’s odd, coming back from my new home in Windsor to visit my family in the Sault. Telling the border guards that I live in Windsor. Not getting lost in Detroit. Realising at last how much of a stinky rathole the sault really is as I crossed the bridge at the border. It really doesn’t take long to adapt to living somewhere else.

Anyway, I’m still here, and will be back to blogging regularly and commenting frequently as soon as I can get some internet hooked up ‘back home’ in Windsor. For now though, I have no phonebook and lots of other important things to do with my time, like make the apartment livable.

And Rob, I have no idea why the comments you tried to leave were rejected, honest. Congratulations on getting your new blog. I look forward to reading it.

into the void

I’ll be without internet for a few days, or possibly a few weeks while I am getting settled in Windsor, so entries may be scarce for a while. Now you won’t be all worried, wondering if I’m dead, having been unceremoniously dumped into the Detroit River like yesterday’s trash.

finished at last

Tonight I finished running the D&D campaign I have been working on for over four years. I have to admit, it was a little anti-climactic in the end. Still, a successful campaign overall, with seven different players, always three or more at once (not including myself), dozens of major characters, some pretty memorable villains, fantastic battles, and powerful magic. I think everyone had a lot of fun over the course of the four years - I know I did.

There were some rough times; we lost a few golden players, endured a few munchkins, and were forced to boot some that were just ruining everyone’s fun. I learned a great deal from the experience though, and I miss it already. Hopefully I’ll have time to join up with a gaming group in Windsor, though it will be a good long while before I return to the Gamemaster’s chair.

reneging

I know I said that I wasn’t going to write about too many politically charged or other news stories anymore, but I couldn’t resist some form of commentary on this one. How do you apologise for wasting 22 years of someone’s life? Oops. Sorry. Here’s some money. A shame you missed out on the best years of your life…

moved in

So I moved all my stuff to Windsor this past weekend. Fun and excitement for all. First, it took all day to load the Uhaul truck. I used muscles I didn’t know I had. Ow.

My parents and Meghan’s mum came along to help. When we arrived, we were too beat to do anything so we just got a motel for the night. I got almost no sleep that night and began unloading at about 8:30am the next day (Saturday). We kicked ass and were done in time for dinner, but not without much hardship. First of all, the landlord had the place painted a ‘neutral colour’ for us. Since when is yellow considered neutral? I hated the crap out of it at first, but once some of the furniture was in there, it began to grow on me.

Overall, the hardest part of the whole ordeal was the couch. It simply would not fit up the stairs, so we were forced to take it in over the balcony. Don’t ask. On to the pictures.
