…and it keeps getting funnier, every single time I see it

By now you would have to be living under a rock not to have heard of the case of Microsoft vs. Mike Rowe over the domain name mikerowesoft.com. In another fun development on this issue, it seems that the clever lad has found a way to turn a sick profit from it all, and by ’sick’ I mean ‘totally awesome.’

In the same situation, I’m not sure I ever would have thought to do that. I’m wondering if this says anything about the contrast of my personality versus his, or his experience versus mine (level-up kind or otherwise)? Then again, there aren’t too many funny puns I can make with my name that could potentially score me big bucks from megacorps either.

I hate viruses

I went on a nice simple virus removal service call tonight after work at about 6:30… I’m still there. I hate viruses. Can’t hackers use their brains for good instead of evil?

Excellent.

Yesterday I received a call from the local Subaru dealer where I ordered my rad. The mongloids messed it up somehow and both quoted me for and ordered not the radiator assembly, but the A/C condenser. Oh, so that’s why it was only $547… sheesh. Then they tell me that the actual rad core would be $789! No fricken thanks. I was willing to pay just over double what the typical import owner would pay for a rad, but not 3.5 times more. That’s just crazy talk.

I instead ordered from Motorsport Warehouse, whose prices are MUCH better (about $400 shipped) and whose customer service is renowned, and now proven to me. The guy was ready to bend over backward for me. The only thing that he didn’t want to do was ship cross-border due to the paperwork involved, which I suppose is understandable. So I had him ship it to a store in Soo Michigan that accepts parcels on behalf of juat about anyone, then when it comes in, I’ll just pop over the international bridge and pick it up. Sweet. Oh and rather than dick around for two weeks like the local yokels, this one is being shipped today. Should be here within a week.

To add injury to insult

OK, that does it. Now I’ve heard it all; Bill Gates was just given an “honourary Knighthood” by the British Empire.

ZZZZZzzzzzz

Saturday night, or should I say, Sunday morning, we had a really long running game of D&D, which was my first crack back at it since my hard drive blew up. I must say, it went rather well, even if it was 4am by the time we quit.

As a result, my Sunday shift at work was none too pleasant, particularily when you factor in that I did about $1200 in sales over four hours.

Since I was a total zombie all day, I thought I’d try to recalibrate my sleep cycle by hitting the sack really early (~11pm) and sleeping in until about 11am. Boy, did that ever backfire. I thought it might. I ent up waking up at about 6 and not being able to get back to bed, so I just played video games until it was time to get ready for work, but naturally, by that time I was ready for bed again. Perhaps I’ll try something a little more moderate tonight…

Ack!!!

My god…. what have they done to my WinAMP? I really liked WinAMP 2; it was compact, simple, versatile, and it just plain worked. Damn you, AOL! Why did you have to buy NullSoft?

On a brighter note, this looks pretty cool.

sucked in

I took some stuff home to test out tonight to see if it works, stuff that was returned since christmas, and among them were some PS2 games. I know, sucks to be me. Anyway, among those was FFX.

So I tried Final Fantasy X tonight and I’m totally sucked in. More on that later, I’m sure. There was something else I meant to blog, but nothing else matters at the moment…

Natural 1! fuel line frozen through

The car turned out to merely have a frozen fuel line, thankfully. A can of gas line antifreeze and some time was all that was necessary. That’s what I get for being cheap and stupid, trying to squeeze a few more kms out of that tank of gas.

…and then I dealt the Imp a hard blow!

That could be a snippet of conversation you would be overhearing between Karma and his/her fellows as he/she smacks me around some more. As of this morning, my other car, the Stratus, is out of commission.

Meghan wakes me up with a phone call to tell me it won’t start. At first we thought it was out of gas, since we were being cheap and trying to squeeze every last drop out, but after pouring in another 4 or 5 litres, it still won’t start. She ran the codes using the ‘key dance’ but nothing comes up. Maybe the fuel lines are frozen. Maybe in a fit of cranking the engine a bunch of times she ran the battery down. Maybe this isn’t going to cost a whole pile of money. And maybe, just maybe, this will mean an end to my streak of rotten luck.

Or not… who knows. There is still a lot that could go wrong; my computer could blow up, I could lose my job, my house could burn down, something bad could happen to my loved ones… but let’s not tempt fate.
