Connecting a PSP to the Linksys WRT54G.
For the record, if you have issues connecting your PSP to a WRT54G router (version 3 or 4) using WPA-PSK, upgrade the router firmware using the HyperWRT package. Works like a charm. Also you can upgrade the PSP to the 2.5 or higher firmware.

Ze link.. it’s broken.
As for HyperWRT, it’s good. I used it for about 2 months for the improved QoS but eventually dropped it for the sveasoft firmware.
Apparently, dd-wrt is supposed to be pretty kick-ass (and free) with WPA2 support (sveasoft does as well, but it’s subscription based and they’re questionable interpretation of OSS licensing leaves a bit to be desired).

Thanks, I fixed the link. I’ve no real need for WPA2, WPA-PSK works well for me. Sveasoft though are fucking monsters who violate the GPL left and right. Nothing like untarring a binary image comprised of entirely GPL’d software, adding more GPL’d software and then charging for it. Ugh.
Anyways :-) There’s also OpenWRT, heard good things about that. I went with the HyperWRT firmware simply because it was the one that changed the smallest amount, and the only features that I needed were a better WPA implementation that’s compatible with the PSP and a way to actually set the transmit power higher than 50%.

Agreed. Technically, they’re charging for “support” but you cannot access the latest revisions unless you pay the yearly support costs ($20). Which is 100% bullshit.
I’m waiting for the next dd-wrt package to come out (apparently, QoS is broken in the current release and I need it for VOIP). OpenWRT is cool for the extra packaging/addon capabilities but it’s far more advanced than what I’m looking for.

There’s nothing really wrong with charging for support and charging for downloading - but if the package is GPL’d software, then it can be distributed under the terms of the GPL itself. Meaning that you’re free to redistribute the Sveasoft firmware.
Now *that* is where they fuck you - they’ve been putting unique identifiers into their firmwares, and they’ve been accused of having the software ping their servers so that they can find any “leaks”. That’s fucked up.
QoS is interesting, but I’ve never really felt a need for it. If I want to play a network game, I just kill uTorrent and play. I’ve never found that the eDonkey or Bittorrent clients slow down just surfing and regular Internet usage though, but that’s just me.

Actually on the same note, the WRT54G supports WPA2 out of the box (and most of the other firmwares too).

Hm. I have a GS version and I haven’t checked the stock firmware in quite some time. Good to know though.
They tie their firmware to specific MAC addresses that you enter into their download section. I could believe the talk back functionality, but I personally haven’t seen anything of it the logs (which, could be filtered for that).
QoS is handy for VOIP. I don’t use that much bandwidth anymore but I’d still like all other traffic to be throttled just so that Vonage router gets priority (It’s primarily for April). ;)

Oh yeah, I totally forgot that you use Vonage. If I had a VOIP system I’d be using QoS too :-)

Being that I’m on vacation for the next two weeks I decided to finally give DD-WRT a shot (I was running Talisman 1.05 before) and wow.. it’s slick.
I downloaded the latest beta v23 and so far so good. I haven’t tested the QoS extensively, but the wireless security is nice and some of the more advanced packages that are included are slick. It’ll take some time to play around with them.
The lack of restricted MAC address downloads is really nice and the support forums on both linksysinfo and the product page are pretty active.

nm. I just read a forum post that seems to indicate that wireless is not working for PSP.
Don’t have one to try myself to see if this is true.
