Rogers sucks.
A Rogers salesperson just called me to try and pitch me High Speed Express. He assured me that it was for unlimited downloads - and I assured him that there was a 60 gigabyte limit. He insisted that there was no limit, and said he was going to check - then he hung up on me!
So a customer service representative tells me that their sales people are all “contracted from other locations” and that Rogers is not responsible for anything the they might say. Is it weird that things like this piss me off? I mean, how the fuck are you allowed to pitch something called “unlimited Internet” when your service has limits spelled out on the website??

I find their attitude about lying salespeople rather surprising. Once, when I was working in that soul-destroying job telemarketing cable internet services(including Rogers), I mistakingly sold someone a package by quoting to wrong figures in a promotion. And wow, did I ever get in trouble. That was just a mistake, and the guy I sold it to didn’t know any different, and didn’t say anything at the time. So unless they’ve changed their package but not yet updated their (abysmal) website, or maybe they’re offering this as a limited-time promotion, or maybe the kid selling it (incorrectly) assumes that because his cable package has unlimited bandwidth that they all do. Or maybe he’s just an idiot desperate for a sale.
In any case, no, it is not weird that this kind of thing pisses you off. If it happened to me, I’d be pissed, too.

Also, I found a bug on your (and presumably my) site: when you ‘preview’ your comment, then try to ‘post’ it, your server comes back with a 404 because it is unable to find mt-comments.cgi, since you changed its name to protect the innocent and all that

Their packages (Rogers) have been on a 60 gigabyte cap for a few months now, and their website was updated with these limits pretty much the day that it happened. And the customer service and sales people that I’ve spoken with in the past couple of months (when I had to setup cable TV at my place) have all informed me of the limit and told me that there’s no way to pay for more bandwidth. And like I said, I called Rogers after I got the call from this “salesperson” - there’s no limited-time promotion going on.
The person calling me was probably just ignorant of the limit since most people don’t care about it. What really pissed me off was that he was so sure there was no limit, and once he realized that there was he hung up. That and the fact that Rogers has no accountability whatsoever for any of their sales agents.
PS: I fixed the preview bug, thanks.

Yeah, after doing some poking around a few weeks ago (when I was about to bust out of my much suckier Cogeco bandwidth cap of 15GB), I too discovered how crappy Rogers is. Almost every other cable and DSL provider that I looked at allow you to pay 5$/month extra for the convenience of not having a cap. Rogers and Cogeco both suck in this regard, though Rogers has a much higher cap. The regular high speed Cogeco (what I have) has 15GB, and the Deluxe has a 30GB cap, which is really lame, though unlike Rogers they will gladly let you exceed your cap at a rate of $0.80 / 100 MB (combined upload and download).

Rogers is a great company with very high moral standards. How dare you put such comments on the web, this is defamatory!
Truth be told I can’t stand them, I have a Bell phone with no intentions of going over to the dark side. Unfortunately the cheapness in me has kept me on Rogers for Internet and Cable due to the employee discount they provide. Yes, I work for “the man” in question.. but don’t worry, I’m trying to take them down from the inside! Any tips?
BTW, that preview bug wasn’t fixed for me.. I just got it.

BTW, I actually did get cut off when I had my original Rogers connection. In early 2004, before the official 60GB cap, there was a secret amount over which you’d be asked to “download less”.
The first call was a small warning to make me aware that my usage was too high.
The second call was to tell me that I was suspended for 1 day, which was reduced to several hours when I said explicitly that I would lower usage.
The third time there was no call until I initiated one… Seven day suspension, still billed for it, no chance of appeal. That’s when I switched to Sympatico.
Throughout the whole ordeal, the Rogers reps absolutely refused to 1. Tell me how much I’d used. 2. Tell me how much less to use.
My theory on that is that since Rogers still claimed at the time to be “unlimited”, telling a customer an actual number would make for legal trouble. The way that the suspensions were justified was that my connection was “using so much as to be affecting the service of other customers”.
That’s why I’d expected to get a letter by now. I wouldn’t even be with Rogers in the first place if Bell’s technicians hadn’t been on strike when I moved to my new apartment.

Interesting. I’ve heard similar stories about what they used to do in the past, but I haven’t heard anything since the cap was put in place.
Roger’s has never notified me (or, for that matter, even contacted me) regarding usage and I’m well over the 60gb cap (and my usage has dropped considerably in the last few years). I’m not sure why they have not cut me off yet.
Do you have any other services with them? I have digital cable and a cell phone. Maybe they look the other way if you’ve got more than just the internet services.

Here’s a conspiracy theory about rogers. I think they cap your bandwidth when you start downloading a few hundred megs per day. My ping was awesome but since I’ve been dling I can’t play anything without a 250 ping (used to be 90 on the same server). Anyone else get that?

At the time of the suspension stuff I had my housemate’s television service, my cell, my blackberry, and internet access on my bill.. A fact I reminded them of, let me tell you. The rep said that it didn’t matter how much money I was spending with them per month! I was not an impressed customer.
Ralph:
I had better pings on Sympatico, but haven’t experienced anything like a lowering of speed. I get ~600k/s to NewsGroupDirect (a decent newsgroup service that takes paypal) regardless of how much bandwidth I’ve used that day.

I once got the “we’re going to suspend your account because of too much usage” email from Rogers. I canceled my service; naturally, they raised my TV cable $10 because I was no longer a “vip” (LOL). So I canceled my cable too. My cellphone contract just ran out so I canceled my cell phone. We’re proud to be another Rogers-free household! BTW, Sympatico has been great so far; good service, no caps, and only $35 per month for 3 Mbps DSL…

Hey hey. Well I can tell you, after having worked for those mutha f*ckers, that the info you were told about the 3rd party reps IS TRUE. I know that, to save some money, they (rogers) will hire non ‘rogers’ rep’s to make outbound sales cold calls to try to suck people in and lock them into contracts. This is their main goal. I would even go so far as to say that lots of people buy into what the 3rd party reps say, then get their bill and are confused as what the bill says DOESN’T match the initail promise. Thats when REAL rogers reps have to try to work to save that person from cancelling bla bla bla, it’s so sneaky but you’d be surprised the lengths they will go to:)

Rogers is still harassing us, even though we paid close to 100. every month for the pckg.deal-well now we are bell customers, and rogers still snoops around asking who our provider is-i am ready to take legal action for harassment at this point.

When setting up an extra email acc with Rogers it is required to sign up with Yahoo. I called Rogers and asked where the data they wanted would be stored. I was informed it would be stored on a server in California.
This means, if you give your information to rogers, it is not protected by Canada’s strict privacy law and your infomation is open to abuse by the American authorities. You may think you have nothing to fear and don’t care but others who though that way have found to their dismay they should worry.

I searched quite awhile online and finally came up with a 1-800 number for sales and at no time did I find anything about canceling my subscription so I called anyway…
Well the fucking hoops I went through was unreal….first the almighty phone menu then a wait to speak to a representative…then after giving her all the info I was asked to stay on the phone and forwarded to someone who could barely speak english harassing me to stay with them and why am I leaving them….why??? I almost lost it on this guy…I am canceling a $30/month long distance plan for #@!%# sakes….next will be their internet service when I get my new provider to connect me and I won’t tolerate being harassed again guaranteed…terrible!

So do all of the others as well.I am currently on the Bell Business Server and when we took this package we were told we would get alot of options (AND DON’T) on top of that they tried billing mee for both a personal and a business account at the same time. The owe me money and will not admit it. As for ROGERS, well Teddy can bend over while I shove my cell phone up his ass because I have had a cell phone with them for ten years now, never an interrruption in service , the same number and all that crap. but they still can’t answer why it is that I don’t receive half of my calls when I live in one of the strongest reception areas. My wife has been locked out of her voicemail for over a year and they swear there is nothing wrong. the claim to have reset it 4 times and refuse to do it again. BLAH BLAH BLAH. I could go on forever but my point is no matter where you go, THEY SUCK. I will not be returning to this site as I am only here by fluke and have no intention of following this up at all. I you wish you can email me but please leave this in the title so I know what it is. ROGERS REALLY SUCKS.

Harassment by Rogers
Rogers are insisting to pay more than $2500 bill by overcharging my mobile phone by over 2000% above normal monthly bill.
The bill includes charges for services I never asked them to provide on my cell phone such as unprecedented overseas calls to Iran and some other countries. I never made those calls.
I made several phone call to Rogers, submitted Statutory Declaration before Honorable Justice wrote letters but all in vein. They hired a collection agency, reported the matter to credit bureau and damaged my credit history which is excellent other vise. The again hired another collection agency CBV Collections Today one of their agent Peter threatened me that he will make sure that I don’t get approval for any mortgage or loan in future.
I know they are totally on wrong path but dont really know how to solve this.

What do I do?????
Where do I beging?! (sigh) Ok, without enumerating the MANY problems we have been having with Rogers, here’s one: My husband calls to request a consolidated bill for all our Rogers services……so…..they say, well no problem, but we need to send a technician over to your home to make “a few adjustments” HMPH!! Well, these adjustments was to install a modem unit, that we neither authorized or asked for!! I won’t even go into what a crappy system this is!!!!
SOoooooo, we call Rogers to tell them to come and take their modem out of our house, and return it to the way it was….they give us the song and dance as to how this is required to have Rogers Home Phone, and that now to have anything done, they need to do a credit check on us…..we have been fantastic customers, paying on time and most of the time before the bill was ever due, and now they need a credit check???!!!! Anyways, the story is not over, finally my husband is completely frustrated with these ummmmm IDIOTS, so I give them a call and tell them in no uncertain terms that they WILL remove this modem from my home and they will do it NOW…..well, they give me the same song and dance about it being required blah blah blah, so I say, “fine, since we’ve come at an impasse then cancel everything, all my rogers services, cable, internet, home phone, everything” He says “well I can definitely set you up with that, but how can I make this right…….this after almost an hour of banter….I tell him once again, REMOVE THIS MODEM FROM MY HOME AND RETURN IT TO THE WAY IT WAS!!!! Sooooo, he says: “well no problem we can do that, let me transfer you to one of my guys who will make sure this will happen.
OH boy, so another while goes by while he takes my credit information and on and on, finally he gives me an order # and assures me someone will call my cell phone that Thursday to set up an appointment for Friday…..big surprise, no one called on Thursday and no one came on Friday, or the next Monday…….(sigh) I”ve been reading all the horror stories of people not having phones for 10, 15 days or longer once they have cancelled with Rogers because Rogers would not release their phone number!!!!!
WHAT DO I DO?????

I have had cell phones with every provider (more or less) in the GTA and to date Rogers by far has the worst customer service there is. The fact that they cap bandwidth on so called unlimited access is garbage and there are times where my internet is so sluggish I can’t do anything.
This is a weely/bimonthly occurance which is deathly when email correspondence is neccessary. Just the other week I called to find out what the hell the problem was over the years and the guy was so rude. He went through the unplug this and this. I did all that to humour him and he insisted that I was still online, telling me I didn’t unplug it. He keeps insisting I unplug it getting more attitude with each request. Finally the moron figures out he was looking at the wrong account. If it wasnt for the fact that I really cannot get sympatico working in my house we would have dropped rogers like a bag of dirt. We already drop the digital cable. Hopefully the internet will follow. I hate them. This blog makes me hate them more.

Hey all, Rogers……. yea what can I say. It was about 5 years ago I got my first cell phone with them. I had a co-signer sign for me because i wasint of age at the time. Went on a couples plan and well.. besides the crazy first bill well over 150$ it was fine for awhile. After a few months though, i started to notice my insane bills. a supposed 47 something dollars a month was reaching near 80$ a month. anyways to get to the point. after getting new phones 3 years l8ter. my bill which was supposed to be around.. 100$ max for a upgrade turned out to be almost 300$!!!! i couldint believe it. so i called rogers, and of course… rude as ever. they said they cannot talk to me because i was not the signer. but my name was also in the contract which should have given me the right to access the account.
Anyways they said theres nothign they can do, since they cant talk to me, and i couldint cancel the cell phones. So at this point. the cosigner moved away. no way to contact him. my cell phone bill was almost at 500$ by the end of that next month. and i could not cancel it or make any changes… well in the end i owed almost 1000$ after the phones were canceled. a collection agency was called. but under the cosigners name.
Next my sisters, girlfriends, my internet was all suspended due to… virus issues? somehow rogers identifyed our comptuers with haveing viruses?…… and then continued to suspend the account. I hate rogers… I hate them so much I literally feel like spitting in theyre crappy store and yelling at every customer support agent in theyre company. For anyone who would ever consider rogers for anything. DONT literally you will loose your soul. If you want good service here are my suggestions Cell=Solo 25$ unlimited incoming. Tv= ANYTHING BUT ROGERS, Internet=Sympatico. I wish you all luck dealing with rogers aka criminals. Email me if youd like. biscuits_ryan@hotmail.com

First let me say that I have not been a Rogers customer since 2001. Bell Expressvu and Bell phone provide far superior service. I did a credit check with Equifax recently and found that Rogers had filed a collection report on me in December 2006. This was very interesting since I have not been a Rogers customer for over 6 years. After calling the collection agency in the report I found that someone with the same name was the reason for the report. The person Rogers was after was over 23 years younger than me. I called Rogers to try to fix the problem and got passed around to various departments. They said they couldn’t fix their filing since I didn’t have an account number with them. Duh. I’m now dealing directly with Equifax to get the problem fixed since Rogers refused to do anything about the problem they created. This was not the first time that Rogers had confused me with someone else. When I was living in Brampton, someone in Etobicoke with my same name moved and I arrived home one day to find that they had disconnected my cable. It took months to straighten out the problem since they kept trying to charge me for a disconnect and reconnect at the same address. Rogers is the worst company in Canada. I received a call today from Rogers asking me to subscribe to Rogers phone. When I told the person what I thought of Rogers, he hung up on me. Never get involved with Rogers unless you want high prices and lousy service.

Well, what can i say that all of u havent said! ROGERS SUCKS!!! I’d been with bell before also, had some probs with them too, but now i am back with bell again.
much better quaility of service and customer care, at least bell doesnt restrict torrent use. With rogers I paid for high speed service but get like 20k dl and like 5k upload when using torrents, wtf is that? I paid for my bandwidth, TOP $$ i might add. How do they get the nerve telling me how to use it? Highspeed lol i got faster transfer rates with dial up lmfao!
Rogers should have stayed in the cable TV business! Bastards
When a company offers high quality service, and sends you a high quality bill.
You had better get what you paid for or you do the math! anyways i’d say if you are in canada go with bell sympatico. Best service to be had round here!
Good luck to all you folks battling with “Rogers”

I was overcharged by the company on two occasions, though the charge was taken off, the customer service agents have become extremely difficult to be dealt with and outrageous enough not to care about company’s mission to serve their customers the best way. Instead of apologising for the mistake, the agent started talking rude and ultimately hung up. I guess they scan for the preferred accent, and god forbid if you dont have those sipernatural abilities to talk the way they want you to talk, your call wont be appreciated. THEY JUST DONT WANT YOU TO CALL. I happen to discuss the matter with one of their managers as well. She told me that I need to go on the website and put my comments on the feedback link and the mail goes directly to VP’s office. But guess what…..there is no feedback link out there..lolz….I guess I’ll switch

These sons of the bitches actually DISCONECTTED my internet without an email/phone call saying why. When I called them I was told that a “known” virus was detected from 1 of my computers and that being the reason they cut me off. They went on to explain that I needed to install Norton Anti Virus or format my computers to get connected again. After having reformatted my brother’s computer, my sister’s computer, and my own computer I called the bitches to get my connection back. After they gave me my internet back they said that the virus was still detected and the asshole that I spoke to THREATENED to suspend my internet connection for ONE WHOLE WEEK and canceling during suspension won’t be allowed either. I have made a promise to myself to cancel my cable tv, cell phone, and cable internet and make a complete move over to Bell—-> a REAL company.

You know, I am not a Rogers fan, but almost all of the complaints I have read on this list seem like user errors, not rogers probs. Yeah, they can be abysmally rude and stupid, but Outlook Express probs, and sluggish internet can be due to a zillion other issues, all of them inside your computer and not on Rogers end of the deal.
Yep they do sometimes use outside contractor call centres to hustle new biz, and that can become a real liar’s poker game. So never purchase anything when THEY telemarket you. Instead, call back and inquire - those people on the inbound call responses are actual Rogers employees with sales targets to meet - and they will be nice in order to get your added business.
As for virused computers, well that happens even when some anti-virus programs are installed. If they are not properly set up, a user can still be vulnerable to infection. Any internet provider has the right to kill off your service if you are infected - one virused computer can take down hundreds of thousands of other users if email propagation of the virus occurs. So yeah, they may have been real insolent on the phone, but they are within their rights on that one.

Presently I’m based in South Korea where the Internet has no caps, the down load rate are fast and the cost per month is low. However, I am planning to move back to Canada next year, and that is why I’ve been reading the comments here on Rogers. Any decent Internet provider should provide dynamic, responsive customer care, if that costs a bit more, so be it.
Roger’s has forgotten that the customer base is finite, it costs more to recruit than to keep a customer. A basic business lesson, sadly one not learned by Rogers. Point of fact people around the world know this company isn’t doing a good job in any of it’s services. This news has been repeated by the U.S website Cnet and other websites.
Considering the facts, Rogers won’t have my business, that means no Internet, TV and cell phone service plans. How many $1000 plus days can Rogers afford to miss?
