Damn.
I’m going to freakin’ Jakarta of all places tomorrow. I go there in the morning, and then fly back to Singapore around 9PM, then back to Japan about 2 hours later. So yeah, tomorrow’s really gonna suck.

I’m not bitter about world travel - just a tad scared of Jakarta. With tens of thousands of people dying from Dengue fever and bombs or bombing attempts every day, it’s not exactly on my top ten places to go :-)

And the flight back to Japan is an all-nighter. That’s the other suck part.

Mate,
Jakarta is not that bad - just be mindful of your personal safety. One tip that I was given is when in a taxi make sure your mobile phone and pda are out of sight as there are plenty of instances where people pull up on a motorbike, smash the window with a gun and relieve you of your phone etc.
Cheers from another frequent flyer!

Weird, how much could a stolen phone even sell for?

Phones are all unlocked here so you can yank the sim and sell em.

Yeah, but how much could a random dude’s used cell phone go for?
I just seems to me that the risk/reward ratio wouldn’t be very profitable.
I mean how many taxis are you going to have to smash into on the go just to pay for the bike, the gun, the ammunition, and the gas?
