Know what pisses me off?
Air Canada got really fucked up by the Blaster virus, right? OK, so a lot of big companies won’t use open source and free software because there’s no one to hold responsible when shit hits the fan.
Well, the shit hit the fan - and no one is even thinking of holding Microsoft responsible. They shipped every OS they make with freakin’ DCOM enabled and listening on an open port - does the average user even know what the hell COM, DCOM, or COM+ is? Do any of them need it? You’d think there’d be class action suits flying left and right. But no.

Christ, don’t get me started on DCOM, or COM+ applications.
You know what’s really scary? Companies still development software utilizing these capabilities. In the last two weeks I’ve had to install and now support (*shudder*) two of these pieces of crap, and the clients can’t understand why I’m about to up and quit.
As for the responsibility factor, even if Microsoft’s to blame, it’s hard to make a martyr of a company who’s probably more powerful than almost every other company on the planet. It’d be nice if people started jumping ship to make a point, but I seriously doubt that will happen.

Yeah, there are too many exploitable vulnerabilities in MS Software. With proper maintenence it usually can be patched before any Viruses / etc. hit, but in large organizations (Like mine) with 5000+ PC’s running Windows NT/2000/XP, It’s a little tricky to co-ordinate an update. We really got rocked last week, lots of OT. (Salary so I don’t get paid). Only saw my daughter 2x the whole week. Sux! TTYL. Don’t forget about the 6th LUKE!
