Um, is this a joke?

So everyone’s talking about Microsoft entering the search-engine arena with their new MSNBot. Ok, good luck. Let’s search Google for Linux:

  • The Linux Home Page at Linux Online - http://www.linux.org/
  • Linux.com - http://www.linux.com/
  • RedHat - http://www.redhat.com/

You can always depend on Google, nice relevant results. Let’s try the MSN search for Linux:

  • Amazon.com - Buy Linux software at the Amazon.com software store
  • Introducing Linux - from tech.msn.com
  • Alternatives to Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP - from microsoft.com

Yeah, they have a ways to go.

I guess it’s all about what they want you to see. They know full well that they can cram their search engine down everyone’s throat, and in so doing, control the content that the millions of e-sheep see every day.

    Well,
Google = somewhat relevant search results.
MSN = Bastion of corporate whoredom. The amazon link is disgusting.

“Yeah, they have a ways to go.”

Yeah, they haven’t yet completely eliminated the ‘L’-word from the search results…

Although they have a long way to go, the results that are on the msn search page are not what will probably show up when they finish their search engine (it is still in the early stages). On that note I love google, and could never imagine using anything else, but ms will probably figure out someway to incorporate their search engine right into the os (more so then it already does with IE).

On that note the other day i was at a girls place and she insisted on using msn search, ah the un-educated.

You should try living outside the USA.
At least google, alltheweb and yahoo have some understanding that there is a world outside of the united states. MSN listing criteria are a joke for anyone who isnt based in the states. You can either get a priority listing in local engine or the global engine but not both and you have to buy your way in through companies that have no idea that regional listings exist. Microsoft rely on the fact that many people still dont know what a search engine is so the default in IE is MSN.
